Happy Bastille Day

Confession...I'm a huge francofile. I had the privilege of traveling to Paris in high-school with my French club and it was an eye-opener for me. It was my first time traveling abroad and it created a life-long passion to experience new cultures, food, and languages. I liked France (and Paris in particular) so much I ended up double majoring in French Language & European History at NYU and returned to Paris to study for a semester.

I had not been back in about 14 years, but I decided to make the return to Paris and see what had changed and what had stayed the same. For 2 weeks in July, I roamed the city streets and fell in love with the city all over again. Lots of things had changed (Starbucks and Chipotle abound) but the allure was still the same...architecture, fashion, history, urban energy, art, and of course food. It was an amazing trip.

All that being said enjoy the fireworks!!!!

They call it the Low Country

I had the pleasure of visiting some family in South Carolina near Hilton Head and wow. Just spectacular. I am a Northeast kinda of guy, but I could definitely see future winter escapes happening here. I don't think I will ever get use to the slow pace of life but the people and the landscape are breath-taking.

Scarface Trailer Mash

Was searching back through my reel/archives and found this which was maybe the first thing I edited completely on my own. This was originally for an AICE Trailer mash contest that they have annually so assistant editors can get some love and accolades (oh how I don't miss my AE days). The contest consists of about 10-12 movies each from a unique genre which assistant editors must then recut into a new genre. I chose to make Scarface (Gangster film) into a French New Wave film. Enjoy!

Stop Motion Party

These are three adorable stop motion pieces put together for Johnston & Murphy's website for 2015. Shot on a Canon 5D. Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC with an assist from After Effects CC. Props to Manny and Patty at No Wheelies for their amazing camera skills and art direction.

the bieber of finland

This was a music video edited for one of Finland's biggest pop stars Isaac Elliot. This was directed by the incredibly talented Sami Joensuu and under a crazy deadline. Everything was shot and edited in 7 days, that's production and all post, which is crazy. Also, instrumental were the great team at No Frames. Shot on Red and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CC.

Gowanus Short / Black Magic Test

Just moved to Gowanus in Brooklyn and decided to take a walk around the new neighborhood and get my bearings. I also just received my Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera (with Metabones speed booster).  I made this quick short just capturing some of what I saw. I love the run-down, industrial feel of the neighborhood, but I imagine that will all be changing in the next few years (a Whole Foods opened just 4 months ago). Also love the BMPCC, it definitely has its drawbacks and quirks (battery life, form factor, cropped sensor) but the image quality + ProRes is definitely an upgrade from the 7D/5D. Shot with the Canon L Series 16-35mm + 24-70mm lenses.

CUTE OVERLOAD

These were web shorts I did for Oscar De La Renta's children's line. Everything about these are too adorable. This all came about through meeting Evan Miller, an amazing photographer, who was looking to get into video. His work is amazing and he has a great eye. This was all shot on a Canon 5D MkII as an aside to the print campaign, glad we managed to make something of it. Check out more of his work below.

MAKE A GUARD LAUGH

Fun little project shot by Jake Sumner for Virgin Atlantic. Super silly, but not totally out of place for Union Square in NYC. Contest was that if you made the guard laugh you got tickets to fly to London. Let the games begin!

Hiking the other Incan Trail

So I decided to hike to Machu Picchu via an amazing company called Mountain Lodges of Peru. Highly recommend it. Started in Cuzco and ended in Aguas Calientes. We hiked via the Salkantay Trail which is much less frequented (I only saw maybe 6 other people outside our group) and stopped every night at one of their luxurious lodges (yes, they had hot tubs). The food was the most diverse and delicious I've ever had (minus the guinea pig) and the Peruvian people are so welcoming and hospitable. Check out more picks below.
